Many of you sitting at home might be wondering what improvisation is. The simplified definition of it is performing without preparation. Improvisation can improve your playing, as it builds on your understanding of melody, structure, and composition. It’s simple enough with a little practice; like anything else, improvisation is a skill that improves with use.This is one of our student’s all-time favorites. This beautiful improve technique is easy enough for young students to master. This activity is sure to be a hit with students any age. Even young students learn how to improvise the left hand, and they’ll be thrilled at how impressive they sound.
Music Theory is the study of the practices and possibilities of music. It generally derives from observation of, and involves hypothetical speculation about how musicians and composers make music. The term also describes the academic study and analysis of fundamental elements of music such as pitch, rhythm, harmony, and form, and refers to descriptions, concepts, or beliefs related to music. Because of the ever-expanding conception of what constitutes music (see Definition of music), a more inclusive definition could be that music theory is the consideration of any sonic phenomena, including silence, as it relates to music.
Using Safari animal posters, students get to sing and move to learn Rhythm. Fun theory lessons learning lines, spaces, tempo, hi low, etc. Musical instruments will used in many classes. Students will color and play music games as well as be introduced to great composers. This is an aspect to our program usually not done until their teens. Parents love this program just as much as the children. Students will perform for family and friends at the end of each semester.
We teach reading music similar to how a speed typist learns her keyboard. You are taught where the notes are on the keyboard in relation the to piano. This method is so fast that students will be reading music on the very first lesson. A child, youth or adult can pick this up so fast that everyone around them will be a awe of what the student is doing. After several years of teaching I discovered that most method books want you to buy their books. Book one takes several months to finish then you go on to book two another several months then book three and so on.
Singing requires continuous muscle training to insure strong projection, quality and control. We must understand what technique is because not understanding technique leads to incorrect practice methods. More importantly, a proper understanding can help us to develop correct practice methods. The most common misunderstanding is that technique is some inherited finger dexterity. It is not. The innate dexterity of accomplished musicians and ordinary folk are not that different. This means that practically anyone can learn to play well.
